Dear Parents and Guardians,
We have been planning to update passwords(for the last month) to ensure the continued security of our digital learning environment, when we return after Christmas break we will soon be updating all student passwords.
Why the Change?
To increase account security, we are moving away from passwords based on birthdates. While birthdate-based passwords have been convenient, moving to a more randomized format significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access to student accounts.
New Password Format
Every student will be assigned a new, unique password. These passwords will follow a consistent format: a single word followed by a random number.
Managing the New Password
Students and parents maintain full control over login credentials, just as they have for the last three years:
Flexibility: Students may change their password at any time via Skyward.
Universal Sync: When a password is set in Skyward, it automatically updates the password for all other school systems.
Easy Access: Both parents and students can reset passwords directly from the Skyward login screen as before.
Coming Soon: Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Once the password reset is complete, we will be enabling Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for logins occurring away from school.
To keep this process student-friendly, they will not need a phone or an app. Instead, they will be asked to select:
A favorite animal
A favorite food
Students will simply enter these two "secret keys" when logging in from home to provide an extra layer of protection.
Reminder: Early dismissal Friday, December 19.
UCHS and UCMS will dismiss at 11:45 a.m.
All elementary schools will dismiss at 12:00 noon.
Schools will be closed from December 22 to January 2.

Unicoi County Schools will be on a 2-Hour Delay on Wednesday, December 3rd. The schedule change is due to temperatures falling below freezing on wet roadways.

As part of ongoing efforts to provide a safe and secure learning environment, Unicoi County Schools and local law enforcement agencies performed a routine canine patrol and search this morning at Unicoi County High School. We commend our students, staff, and families in reporting that there were no findings.
