Unicoi County Schools is working through this difficult and strange time to make sure our students receive the highest-quality educational experience possible. For our high school seniors this time is especially anxious. We know there are several questions concerning Graduation and Prom at the end of the school year.
We want all our seniors and their families to know our school system will do everything possible to hold these events in some form for our seniors. As of today, UCHS Graduation is still scheduled for May 18 at 7:00 PM. If we return to school after the Governor’s April 24th timeframe then this should not be a problem.
However, if our schools were to remain closed for the remainder of the school year then the May 18th date would be hard to accommodate. In this scenario we plan to do everything within our power to hold a graduation event later in the summer months. As you imagine, specifying a date at this time is just too difficult. However our goal will be to hold the event for our seniors. As the situation in our country and region changes we will be able to make a better determination on a date.
At this time our UCHS Prom, scheduled for April 25th will be postponed. As with graduation, our school system will do everything possible to find a healthy, safe date for this event to happen. We want to ensure our seniors have the opportunity to celebrate the traditions of their senior year in some form.
We appreciate your patience in this extraordinary time in our community and our nation. Please know that UCHS Graduation and Prom are a priority for the Unicoi County School System and School Board. We want to give our students the opportunity to celebrate the traditions so many Blue Devils have in our past. We will do everything we can to make these decisions with the health and safety of the students, families and community in mind.
