EARLY READING TRAINING: COURSE I
(educators with licenses that include K-5)

Successful completion Course 1 meets the foundational skills professional development training outlined in the 2021 Tennessee Literacy Success Act. Current K-5 teachers must complete the training by August 1, 2023. Teachers with K-5 certification and not currently teaching in Elementary should complete the training in order to renew their license. The Reading 360 Modules found at bestforall.tnedu.gov satisfy the requirement. Once completed educators are issued a certificate that should be shared with Jenifer Lingerfelt and or Sherry Ray.

Early Reading Advanced Courses

Early Reading Advanced Modules offer support in various areas to help you continue building knowledge about early reading instruction. This course does NOT fulfill TLSA licensure requirements.  This course is designed to extend and deepen the lessons learned in Early Reading Training. This training is not required but is encouraged. 

 

The content covered in the courses includes:  

  • Intellectual Preparation  

  • Analyzing and Using Student Data  

  • Addressing Individual Student Needs  

  • Instruction for Foundational Skills  

  • Foundational Skills Progression, Part 1  

  • Foundational Skills Progression, Part 2  

 

The course overview provides more information about the specific content covered in each course and the expected time it will take to complete each course. 

TENNESSEE LITERACY SUCCESS ACT TRAINING & LICENSURE
(educators with licenses that include K-5)

The Tennessee Literacy Success Act requires that all teachers holding a license with an endorsement that allows them to teach reading in grades K-5 complete at least one approved foundational literacy skills course by August 1, 2023. The free TN Early Reading Training OR Secondary Literacy Training meets this training requirement. After completing the selected training, a certificate is earned with a passing score on the summative assessment. This certificate must be uploaded to TN Compass within one year of the educator’s licensure renewal or advancement deadline to meet the licensure requirement component of the Tennessee Literacy Success Act.  Educators are also required to send a copy of their completion certificate to Sherry Ray (rays@unicoischools.com) or Jenifer Lingerfelt (lingerfeltj@unicoischools.com).
